About
Mar 18th, 2007 by Nathan White
I’m Nathan White, and I’m from the North Georgia/Atlanta area. I will be the main contributor on this site, but this site is most certainly not about me. There are way too many ‘its all about me and my opinon’ blogs out there, and not nearly enough of ‘its about Christ and what He did and said.’ Lord-willing, this is an attempt at the latter.
In John chapter 21, beginning in verse 15, the risen Christ asked the Apostle Peter three times ‘Peter, do you love me?’ Of course, Peter replied that he did in fact love the Lord. However, it is Jesus’ response that deserves our attention, and it is one that motivated the naming of this blog as ’shepherd the flock’. Jesus doesn’t tell Peter to make sure and obey everything he was taught. He doesn’t tell Peter to make sure and do his daily devotions. He doesn’t tell Peter to spend an hour a day in prayer or he is sinning. No, despite the great importance of these things, Jesus tells Peter three times to, “Feed My lambs”, “Tend My sheep”, and “Feed My Sheep” (ESV). In our American culture, Christianity has become a ‘me’ religion instead of a ‘us’ religion. We are to pursue holiness not in some dark corner by ourselves, but corporately with the other believer’s edification as more important than our own. Neglecting our own private worship will certainly dishonor the name of Christ, but neglecting to pursue and encourage the holiness of others will do exactly the same.
Peter’s last instructions from Christ were to tend the spiritual needs of others; it was this that Jesus pointed him to as an evidence of Godly love! So it is with this understanding that shepherdtheflock enters the world wide web.
This blog represents what is constantly on my heart as a believers in the Lord Jesus Christ: with the gospel and by example, ministering to people through discipleship, teaching, apologetics, and servanthood.
Here is a brief overview of what this site is all about.
What Shepherd the Flock is about:
- Growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Before obedience comes theology; doctrine, -what we believe about Christ and His revealed word, underscores every aspect of our lives. What we believe determines how we live. This site exists to help promote sound theology leading to Godly knowledge. We seek to teach people pure theology about Christ so that they may indeed go out and live like Christ.
- Providing resources and commentary on issues related to biblical theology and Christian living with the intent to better equip believers to live a holy, God-fearing, servant-filled, Christ-exalting life.
- Providing a response to common errors, heresies and controversys dealing with Christ, His word, and sound biblical theology. These errors may come from a teaching or a teacher, but there will be an attempt to gently expose error according to the “need of the moment”, so as to “bring grace to the hearers.”
What Shepherd the Flock is NOT about:
- This site is not about the administrator, Nathan White, or anyone else who may post here.
- We are not about controversy. Although controversy may come, there will be an attempt to avoid it at all costs, particularly where there is no clear edification coming from a discussion.
- We are not about ‘political’ endeavors such as fishing for traffic, garnering links or attention, or gaining the approval of the ‘popular’ bloggers or other popular or well-know Christian leaders.
- This site does NOT displace the need to personally spread the gospel, and to disciple and minister to those in your local church. But, before action comes knowledge. Thus, this site is about equipping the saints to go out and ‘do likewise’.
