“If I hear, ‘I’m going to share from my heart today’, I’ll walk out!”

“The greatest need in this country today…is preachers, and they’re hard to find…
…I walk into a church and here a preacher say stand up and say ‘I’m going to share from my heart today’, I’ll walk out. I care less what’s in his heart; I don’t want to know what’s in his heart, I want to hear a word from God. I don’t want to know the way he feels; I don’t want to know stories about his life. I don’t really want to learn from him. I want someone to open up this book and say ‘thus sayeth God’! And I don’t want anything other than their work in interpreting the thing correctly. I want to hear from God; I need to hear from God! I’m desperately weak; without a word from God, I perish!” - Paul Washer
Nathan,
I sent this quote to about 30 or 40 Christians that I’m aquainted with including my Pastor and boy you should have been here for the fallout!
Whew! Talk about getting slammed! How dare you only want mindless, heartless preaching devoid of any soul!
A few (rightly) pointed out that Paul Washer himself tells a lot of stories in his preaching…hmm…
This just reinforces my theory….Paul Washer…love him/hate him….no inbetween!
Robert,
Well, the quote I typed out should of course be taken in context of the video, so I hope people watched before making a judgment.
I take it that you didn’t like the quote and/or Paul Washer?
Nathan,
I just realized that their was a video! My browser isn’t showing it…hmmm….
I do like Paul Washer, however I’ve found that nobody that I’ve given PW videos, quotes, or audios, to has a neutral reaction…not so far!
I was not slamming PW myself, I was just being a little sarcastic based on what people said to me after giving them that quote…he was called a “Pharisee” and “legalistic” and other things such as “huge chip on his shoulder” or “he’s always angry”
I guess I wasn’t clear…sorry….
